Cluster Installation Clarification.....??

Former Member

Hello Folks,

I am looking for a clarification on one particular step in the Cluster installtion.

My environment, ECC Cluster Installation

1. MSCS cluster of SAP (SAP Cluster)

2. MSCS cluster of SQL2005 (DB Cluster)

As per the SAP inst' guide, the following steps are perfoemd.

1. Install the central services instance for ABAP (ASCS) on the first MSCS node

2. Install the central services instance (SCS) on the first MSCS node

3. Cluster the first MSCS node.

4. Install the database instance on the first MSCS node

5. Cluster the additional MSCS node

6. Install the central instance

7. Install dialog instance.

As per the Inst' guide it just says

" Install the database instance on the first MSCS node"

Q .What I would like to know is 'Do I need to run/configure the database instace again on the second node of database Cluster? when should that be performed?

IF 'YES' where can I get the information on that, as the guide doen't mention?

IF 'NO' How will the DB cluster second node be configured?

As per my understanding there is no need for installing Database instance on the Second DB node.

Can you please put your thoughts on the above and help me out....before I get into trouble...!

Thanks in advace!

Cheers

James

HI James

What about the Enqueue Replication Server ?

Installs a database instance. If your database instance is to be installed in the same MSCS cluster as the SCS and ASCS instance, you must perform this step on the first node of this MSCS cluster. If your database instance is to be installed in a different MSCS cluster from the SCS instance, you perform this step on another MSCS cluster. You must have finished the Central Services Instance (ASCS) and Central Services Instance for ABAP (ASCS) installation.

With MSCS you enable critical system components, so-called Single Points of Failure (SPOFs) to be automatically switched from one machine to the other, if hardware or software problems arise on one machine. With the help of this switchover - or failover - the system can continue functioning normally so that unplanned system downtime is avoided.

Also I have one more Query on Moving the Cluster Resources?

The Inst guide does not clearly mention what Cluster resources/groups has to be moved to which nodes.

Is there any doc for Cluster resource admin available on the SAP Marketplace?

Can some one help me with the sequence of steps and what resources needs to be moved for MSCS SQL Cluster installation. Specially for Node A installation and Node B(additional) installation?

Thanks

James

Hi,

There is no need of installing the DB instance on the other node.

The DB instance will be installed only one time and then when the Configuring the Additional MSCS Node step is executed, it converts the SAP instances on the other MSCS node for operation in MSCS.

Hope you installed the tempdb, transaction and data files of the MSSQL on the shared disks.

Also make sure that you install the ERS instances for (A)SCS instances on both the nodes locally.

Hope this helps you.

Best regards,

Madhav.
