hi

SAP Exchange Infrastructure (SAP XI) is SAP's enterprise application integration (EAI) software, a component of the NetWeaver product group used to facilitate the exchange of information among a company's internal software and systems and those of external parties. Like other NetWeaver components, SAP XI is compatible with software products of other companies.

SAP calls XI an integration broker because it mediates between entities with varying requirements in terms of connectivity, format, and protocols. According to SAP, XI reduces integration costs by providing a common repository for interfaces. The central component of SAP XI is the SAP Integration Server, which facilitates interaction between diverse operating systems and applications across internal and external networked computer systems.

NetWeaver is a service name and XI,EP,BSP,Webdypro are all

embedded in this service.

In short XI, EP,WP, BW, BPM, MDM, KM, Collaboration are all

sub-components in SAP Netweaver...you can build application

in them which can run independently or can also talk to

each other.

Using WebDynpro you can create application which could run

on SAP Enterprise Portal or Handheld devices like PDS,

Mobiles, etc.

WebDynpro follows the MVC architecture and its used for

creating application with user interfaces.

Refer the below link for more details:

http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/30/c4461ff69d5a438f1286e344b545fa/frameset.htm

refer the netweaver diagram in that and see where each stand in which intweaver stack.

EP and XI are the component of SAP netweaver.

Now the difference between both of them is

In EP: you need to have a good theoritical and practical experience as well as knowledge of JAVA and adavance java. EP is used for developing protal

In XI:

Its a middleware tool which is used to integrate NOn sap and sap systems.

It is separated in two parts

1) XI basis (Administration)

Activites are:

1) XI installation

2) Configuration activitie

3) Post installation checks

4) SLD configuration

5) Create Users,

6) Role assignments.

And many more

2) XI Implementation and development.

Under the development you have two parts Integration repository which is desing part which involves small amount of Java knowledge whenever your requirement is not fulfilled by standard SAP XI function.

and integration Configuration:

This is very simple stpes once your design is over.Based on your requirement you have to use the standard adapter provided by SAP for example if file is coming then u will go for File adapter,if IDOC is psoted to R3 then you go for IDOC adapter, communication with remote client u go for SOAP adapter.

Thnx
