Post FI Document via web service from external system

Hi All,

We currently transfer data from an external system to SAP FI via SFTP and XML documents, which are then read and processed using an ABAP program calling FB01/FB02 using BDC every couple of hours.

We now have a requirement to switch this to some form of web service that can be called from the external system as and when a new document is created/changed etc from the external system and consumed/implemented within SAP FI.

Can someone point me in the right direction or provide me with a list of BAPIs that could be used for this purpose? I'm aware we can create web services from existing or new function modules etc. But I have yet to find detailed documentation of how that would work with an FI document or something with more substantial content.

Any help much appreciated.

We are currently running ERP 6 EHP2 SPS19 if this makes a difference.
