The 1st meeting of the WashDC/Baltimore SDN "Breakfast Club" will be held

... at 5AM on Tuesday Feb 12, 2008 in the "DoubleT Diner" here:

http://baltimore.citysearch.com/profile/5008473/

I've been told that the DoubleT is a true "Greek" diner in the NY/NJ sense of the term (but read the blurb at the link above if you don't know what a "Greek diner" is. The idea is that the "home fries" (fried potatoes) have been cooking on the grill so long that a lot of the potatoes and onions are just little bits of brown caramelized sweetness ...)

If you're interested, please respond to this thread or email me at

halitsky.d@att.net

Any "80's" folks here at SDN will understand how fitting it is that I am convening this meeting of the first local "SDN Breakfast Club". If you don't get the reference, see this link:

http://imdb.com/title/tt0088847/

But .. don't let that stop you ... you're welcome to come even if you're not an SDN "troublemaker" ...

David - Ignacio sends his regards (http://partuca.host.sk/8things.html). I found your Double T Diner meeting, albeit a month later, via Google. There are about 8 of them in the Baltimore area; it looks like yours was between Balt. and Annapolis. I took folks from the UK to one near here and they were stunned at the menu size. They're probably still saying "scrod."

Hope I can make the next meeting.

Hey Jim -

Since you're the only person in the immediate area who's expressed any interest, you have an excellent (100%) chance of making the next meeting. Just pick any Monday - Wed at a place between us.

Regarding location, the DoubleT I specified is actually pretty much "in" Annapolis (intersection of 2 and 450), but since I live about 15 miles north of Annapolis in Odenton, the one you visited might actually be closer to me. Also, I noticed a monster diner in Crofton on Route 3 - "The Nautilus" - this place has gotta be the mother of all "Greek" diners.

Seriously - my email is

halitsky.d@att.net

and cell is

615-613-2123

so if you really would like to do this, just let me know.

Also, if you've read the whole thread here, you'll see that Rich Heilman is thinking maybe of a "mid-Atlantic" get-together sometime in the future - it would be nice when the weather stabilizes.

In any event, best regards, and thanks for passing on the link to Ignacio's comment ...

Blag - thanks - we'll think of you while we're pigging-out.

Ravi - that was a very funny and "hip" comment - as the French say, "touche" ...

Kjetl - thanks for the assist, but I don't think it will work either ... SAP doesn't pay for "indie" field operations ...

Suresh - I'm sorry you won't be there ... can't you drive up from Florida - it would only take about 18 hours or so ... we'll keep your eggs warm in case you hit traffic.

Stephen - well I don't consider your area "fly-over" country ... when I was working the Army's first attempt to modernize (using M204, not SAP), I spent a lot of time in the RAY building on Spruce Street ... and I have fond memories of a place called "The Jury Room" a few blocks away ... back then you could drink your lunch and nobody looked at you funny when you fell asleep at your desk around two pm ... regarding your question, I think I'm probably the "school crossing-guard" type ...

Mark - Thanks for the German version of the proverb ... it must have something to do with the old poetic cliche "kissed by the dawn" ... oh .. sorry ... I forgot this was a family "G-rated" site ...

Rich - you mean like "If we build it, they will come" ? (like "Field of Dreams"). Well, you pick a Fri, Sat, or Sun and I'll stay up here and we'll do it. I'm thinking of the old Chartlesville Restaurant off old Rte 22 between Harrisburg and NJ - it's "family-style" with very good food ... but I'm sure there are plenty of similar places nearer to you in "Amish" country ...

Anyway - nice to hear from you all - maybe will see you this year SOMEwhere.

David,

If I wasn't in the middle of "fly-over" country I definitely join you. The only question I have for you is which character are you:

- athlete

- rebel

- "perfect kid"

Take care,

Stephen

Hi David, that location is actually relatively close to me when looking at the big picture of SDN.

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&hl=en&geocode=&saddr=York,PA&daddr=12DefenseSt,Annapolis,MD21401-3103&sll=39.47341,-76.64282&sspn=1.562483,2.062683&ie=UTF8&z=9&om=0

Unfortunately, I will be heading to Palo Alto the day before.

Are you currently working in this area now? If so, maybe we could round up the troops in this area to have an official SDN meetup sometime this year.

Regards,

Rich Heilman

How do you say in German:

"The early bird gets the worm!"

Well - hopefully not in this case ... I understand the food is very fresh.

He works with SAP solutions - so of course it is WMT (Walldorf Mean Time). It's the breakfast on your way home from work.

Hi David,

Had to think about this one. The German saying is: Morgenstund hat Gold im Mund , which translates into the morning hours have gold in their mouth. Not sure why it is the saying.

Best, Mark.

Checked out Wikipedia for it: http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Morgenstund_hat_Gold_im_Mund

Es ist die wortgetreue Übersetzung des lateinischen Lehrbuchsatzes aurora habet aurum in ore. Dieser bezieht sich auf die personifizierte Morgenröte (lat.: aurora), die Gold im Mund und im Haar trägt.

It is a translation from a Latin proverb and relates to the red morning sun, that makes your hair and mouth look golden.

No one can say, that you don't learn something in the Coffee Corner

Best, Mark.

I'm sure that looks like a message i had the last time i tried to make sense of a Short Dump Analysis in ST22.

Nice try David.

Let's say if one of us makes it there

The chances are slim, as we are all in Walldorf this week, Mark.
