Reprocessing of the FG Material using the same material and batch

Hello All,

My client requirement is to reprocess the existing FG material by using special order type.

In special process order, header material and component is same. Requirement is that, when I am selecting the batch for component then at the time of releasing the order, the same batch will be updated in GR tab as a GR batch.

While working on this, we are getting an error that, "Batch for material in plant is already exist". If anybody worked on such scenario then please guide to set up the same.

It is quite common that for packaging materials the same batch number is used as for the bulk material, and we are doing this for 2 decades already without getting the error that you mentioned.

I actually asked you in my first reply whether you (or an experienced colleague) customized the message to appear as an error. You somehow ignored this question and the contained information, which is in other words: "hey this message is customizable, just make it a warning and you can achieve your goal"

Thank you for the inputs.

I have told this to client but even though they wanted because it's repackaging process not exactly the reprocessing/rework.

They are just doing packaging of the same finished good and they told that, there is no problem of quality check also. They will manually create the order for this reprocessing order type.

This is done by technical enhancement but ABAP team said that they are getting an error "Batch for material in plant is already exist" after the technical changes done.

Can you please suggest for the further set up to avoid this error and complete this enhancement.

Can it be that colleagues of you customized the message M7 838 to be an error to prevent such situations?

I am working in the chemical industry and it would not be logical for us to get the same batch again with a new production or with a rework.

Same batch would mean same quality which would mean the batch is again bad in quality. Since it can be assumed that the rework process eliminates the error you actually get a new quality, different from the former, so you would want to record the new quality value to a new batch, instead of overwriting existing values and losing history.
