Basis Consultand Role in MDM Configuration

Hi Gurus

I would like to know , what exactly is the role of basis consultant in installing and configuring SAP MDM Server.

If anyone can tell responsibility of BASIS Consultant while installing and Configuring SAP MDM Server , it will be very helpful because none of the configuration documents specifies which part is to be done by BAsis pesron and which by Functional consultant.

Points will be rewarded for helpful answer.

Hi,

Please perform these steps accordingly:

As per my knowledge, Please perform these steps to maintain good MDM server:

1. Periodically check log files in Server folder under SAP MDM 5.5. and archive unnessary files on other drive.

2. Also do same activity for Import and Syndication server, because log files took extra space and will be generated on daliy basis.

3. Periodically take archives of repositories on local drives.

4. Do minimize use of extra languages for Repository, calculated fields, indexes etc.

5. Use update indices to minimize data inconsistency.

6. You can use CCMS for monitoring MDM performance including Import, syndication, and layout server. use tcodes rz20, rz21 etc.

7. Archive data from ready and archive folders on local disks.

All Log files sre available in corresponding components folders under SAP MDM 5.5 folder.

One more thing to mention is always update your MDM GUI clients and server according to new builds to avoid bugs or different issues related to specific build.

Now SP06 is available to download, you can continue with that.

In addition to those points:

you have to be more specific about first taking repositories archives from old version of server and then unarchive them on new mdm server.

Language specification of mdm repositories: dont use unnessary languages in repo. it will affect server performance while uploading them.

You have mentioned about post installation / maintenence part of it. Similarly I would like to know while installation and configuration of MDM Server , what are the responsibilities of Basis Consultant? Which part of Configuration he shoud do etc.?

Download all installable guides from Service Matket Place, they are descriptive in itself for a Basis person.

Hi,

As a part of basis consultant, you should have all the authorization for download latest build version and latest support pachages and patches.

when you download the new version and upgrade your MDM server then you shold have all the business content related to MDM like MDM Java API, ABAP API files, for integration with EP, you shold have all the support packages etc...

when you install the mdm, remember you should install MDM server fisrt then install other server services like MDM Import server, Syndication server for automatic importing and syndicating the records.then you should install all the clients like console, data manager, import manager etc...

remember one thing, as per my knowledge for basis guys, you should handle all the things via MDM console like creating users and assigning proper role.

in addition to these, you should take archives of all repository on daily basis which are running on mdm server because in case of server crashes, you would have all the backup for the repo and you wont face any problem.

Basis after SAP 4.7 is called as WAS. Netweaver Admin and WAS Admin are similar to Basis Admin. WAS Admin job is to maintain both Stack ABAP and JAVA. To maintain Portal you should have knowledege of JAVA Stack.

As MDM will work in conjunction with Portal and Database you need a Basis or WAS Admin who knows Database Admin and Java Stack Admin.
