Hello,
A customer of mine checked the 'approval procedure' behaviour.
He noticed that the approval procedure worked only when creating a document.
Editing a document, even to a point an approval is needed doesn't activate the control.
Is it a bug or can you explain this behaviour ?

I'm afraid it's bthe normal behaviour.

Approval procedure trigger only when Adding a document and not during Update. I agree that Alert are not preventive.
The other option is to use a stored procedure provided by SAP called SBO_SP_TransactionNotification.
Every transaction passes through this stored proc and can be used to validate and prevent transaction from going to the database. We can also provide an warning message at the Task bar.
