How to migrate conifg data from one release to another?

Hi experts,

We are running R/3 enterprise 4.7 and going to implement ECC6.0 (new). Is there a way to bring just configuration data into ECC6.0 ( if possible just one module config data)? We are not planning to purchase any data migration tools.

Can we create a master transport of config data in 4.7 and import into ECC6.0? ECC is unicode and 4.7 is non-unicode system. What are the technical and logical implications? Have any one tried this?

An upgrade is usually not done by installing an empty new system and then trying to transfer the "config data" to the target system. Usually you use your source system and UPGRADE it. After the upgrade you may do some delta-customizing to adapt your "modules" so that it works again.

Since SAP is an integrated system, there´s not an isolated view of a "module".

What you can do is to upgrade 4.7 to ERP 6.0 and then use a customizing client copy to another system.
