Serial Number

Hi All,

I'd like to know if Plant Maintenance is required to be able to assign serial number for inventory in the MM module.

In our implementation, Plant Maintenance is out-of-scope (we're about to start the Blueprint phase). But we also have a need to record serial number during goods receipt.

My understanding is that Plant Maintenance is required to record serial numbers for inventory. This is based on the following passage that I found in the MM book.

“The configuration of the serial number profile should be performed with the aid of a Plant Maintenance Consultant who will ensure that the customer’s requirements for Plant Maintenance are taken into account”.

The book also documents the navigation path to define serial numbers as follows:

IMG - > Plant Maintenance and Customer Serivce-> Master Data in Plant Maintenance and Customer Service -> Technical Objects -> Serial Number Management - > Define Serial Number Profiles -> Serial Number Profile.
