Hello,
Is Solution Manager Service Desk sufficient for use as enterprise help desk software or is it better suited for use on only SAP issues and an interface to a third party help desk program?

Pending on how big is the enterprise you are refering to. The support desk have the basic CRM functionality in including call logging, escalation, SLA management and change control. To answer you and ID what is your requirements you will have to give an indication what is your number of other systems, users, countries etc.
