Hi,

I was following all steps from Julie's great manual to install SAP ABAP Trial NW 7.51 SP2.

https://blogs.sap.com/2017/09/04/sap-as-abap-7.51-sp2-developer-edition-to-download-concise-installation-guide/

However, the installation always fails with the following error message: “Installation of NPL failed .Please check log files in /tmp/sapinst_instdir..”

When checking the logfiles I can only see that there is an issue with retrieving information for SYBASE DB. The licence is valid until March 2018.

It seems that I am not the only person receiving this error but I haven't found a fix for that.

Thanks.

i have the same error. The yast settings are the same as yours

And I found the reason for it to happen. I was running the script after i typed su in the console and not sudo -i as it is mentioned in the guide:

And now…(last step before we install), we will assign root privileges, by entering sudo -i.

  • Enter the root’s password and navigate to the shared folder with the ABAP installation: cd /media/sf_s4installer
  • Change the access rights of the install script: chmod +x install.sh

Regards,

Dmitrii Iudin

Hi Johannes, Sorry, I have only just seen this, because you didn't use "ABAP_Trial".

A few quick questions:

1. What VM and Linux distro are you using?

2. Are you using the -g option?

3. Also, my settings in Yast -> System -> Network Settings -> Hostname / DNS look like this:

Yours?

Please answer these quick questions and let me know.

Best wishes, Julie.

Thanks for your answers.

1. I am using oracle virtual box und openSUSE Leap 42

2. No, I am not using the -g option (I am running just ./install.sh)

3. YAST settings are the same

I was now also trying the sudo -i option again. But I got the same error. So I used an older snapshot and tried a fresh installation with sudo -i.

Now I have a different error:

Thank you for any help!

Hi Johannes

I scanned thru your trace files. In the first run, suspicous entries refer to Problems with the Password. Perhaps you entered a Password with too many Special characters. In the repeat, I see the following:

TRACE 2017-11-23 15:46:23.092 (root/sapinst) (startInstallation)
syb_start_db_server_reset_sa_password: 00:0000:00000:00000:2017/11/23 15:46:23.08 kernel os_create_region: can't allocate 1909592064 Bytes
You seem to be tight on resources

Can you evaluate Manfred
