Heii,
In MDM 5.5 SP05 patch2 improve the perforamance but still there is you need to do enhancement like nested qualified tabel. we need to standered message type for classification data.
There has been an improvement in the MDM5.5 SP05 in patch 2 as compare to SP04.
1. With SP04, it used to take couple of hours to add and delete fields. ( Bad response times within Portal UI).
But With SP05 it hardly takes 15 secs.
Landscape changes-
In SP04, Portal and MDM server was divided into 2 machines and a new database was installed on the local MDM server.
Reasons for better performances:
1. Upgrade to MDM5.5 SP05
2. Extra hardware ( previously MDM was installed with Portal on 1 box).
3.Newly installed Database software .No fragments.
Hope this help. Please reward if you find it useful.
Rgds

Hi Karan,
In comparision of MDM 5.5 SP04 & SP05 in the performance aspect:
SP05 has more feature enhancement like :
Search criterias are improved and can be saved and restored, security in login repository which was not available with SP04 even in syndicator for XML syndication single file and multiple file syndication provisions are made.
Response time is better in SP05.
These are some of the improvement i observed
Hope it helped

Hi KT,
you might have a look at the [MDM Documentation Center on SMP|http://service.sap.com/installmdm]. There's a Sizing Guide available which contains performance measurements as well as tips and tricks how-to setup/improve your MDM landscape.
