I increased the size of the column but still it returns the same error.

Service exception: [274] inserted value too large for column

the nvarchar column accepts only 2 char.

it seems there is a bug or i am doing something wrong.

please help me here.

Since you edited the property data types did you regenerate the service and also clear the metadata caches in both frontend and backend systems. Check these and update.
