doubt in Role permissions

Dear team,

I have a role with 4 child roles(sub roles) and there are 10 users. 4 child roles refers to 4 dashboards.

Each user should be given access to specific dashboards based on the designation.

Now If I assign this main role to the users then every one will get access to all the 4 dashboards. here want to give permission to the dashboards(Sub roles) based on users, is it possible ?

Regards,

Chan

Hi,

Instead you can do something like this:

Create an empty workset as an entry point. Have the four sub roles created. Add this empty workset as a delta link in all the subroles and then add the corresponding dashboards into these individual delta link worksets. You can make use of role merging to facilitate users with two subroles see the corresponding dashboards in the same workset.

Dear Pawan,

What you said is absolutely right.

My question is, is it possible to give permissions for objects like roles and worksets depending upon user i.e user A should be displayed with 1 main role under which dashboard 1 and 2 should be displayed and for user B, same main role with dashboard 3 and 4.

In permissions is this achievable?

If I give permission to an object in portal, that will be common for all the users according to my understanding. we can not give this object's permission as user specific, am I right?

Hi Chan,

Portal objects permissions can be given to roles, groups and individual users as well. No doubt about it. But these permissions decide whether it is a read, read/write, owner permission.

Even if you give the least of these permissions to the user, it wont stop the user from seeing that Portal object. For your scenario, I would suggest creating 4 individual merging roles.
