Mixed pallet types on one beam

Hi experts,

We have a question regarding bin sectioning of a beam.

At the moment we don't use bin sectioning, it's just 3 locations.

Now they want to have 4 locations per beam, but only for EURO pallets. If the first BLOCK is in, only 3 locations should be available.

Examples:

Beam empty, first EURO in => 4 locations. Second is a BLOCK, change beam to have in total 3 locations

Beam empty, first BLOCK in => 3 locations

Beam empty, first EURO in => 4 locations. Possible to fill up to 4 EURO in total

Don't see any optionsin standard customizing?

Thanks

Michael

Hi Michael,

Did you try your requirement with capacity check ?

-> Beam-*100 ( Bin Type Max Capacity )

-> Packaging Material Capacity : Euro-*25 Block-*30..

Kind Regards,

Hi,

I suppose with "locations" you mean sections and a strategy as described here: https://help.sap.com/saphelp_ewm94/helpdata/en/aa/cecb53ad377114e10000000a174cb4/frameset.htm.

"Beam empty, first BLOCK in => 3 locations

Beam empty, first EURO in => 4 locations. Possible to fill up to 4 EURO in total"

Yes, that is what the strategy does.

"Beam empty, first EURO in => 4 locations. Second is a BLOCK, change beam to have in total 3 locations

...

Don't see any options in standard customizing?"

You mean you want to change the already created sectioning dynamically depending what the next pallet is? No, this is not possible in standard. And it absolutely not what the strategy is meant for. A mixing of pallets makes no sense (even if a lot of customers wants to do it). And the documentation describes that it is possible, but that only makes sense and works if the required base dimensions for each HU type is the same (in a mix).

And it is EWM. NOT eWM - Duh!
And if your question includes the word "transfer order" - do NOT tag the question with Extended Warehouse Management!

That's what I told our DC 😉

Their answer "ok, then SAP is not optimizing the operations in warehousing"

At the end this is something we need to develop on our own, not possible to have this with standard SAP

Thanks for your answer Jürgen

The problem is that if you mix - you loose space. If you plan to put away 4 small pallets in a bin, but after 1 small you put away 1 big in the next section, so you reduce the max to 3 - what happens when you putaway another small pallet? You waste space. That's it. So what is optimal about that?

But I suppose the BAdI is /SCWM/EX_CORE_PTS_NBIN_PAL.

Jürgen, yes and no.

Let's say we have 3 pallets, 2 BLOCK and 1 EURO, physically fit into one beam, but system will now allow and you have to use 2 beams...

Let me check the Badi, not sure if I want to use it 😉

Hi,

but this only works properly if 1 Block is exactly double the size of 1 Euro in that one dimension.
