CR for VS 13.0.21 crashes VS when trying to select boolean parameters in preview

Using VS2015 and CR 13.0.21. Our reports with standard boolean values crash in the VS CR designer when trying to get a preview and select/fill the boolean values (main report preview tab --> fill values screen). They are presented as a drop down, but neither selecting the drop down button nor trying to type in true or false works. It instantly crashes VS when the drop down receives focus. Any way to work around this or better yet: fix this?

As per usual after fighting this bug for over a day and just a few hours after posting my question I find part of the solution myself: the Resharper plugin is wreaking havoc. When disabled Crystal Reports for Visual Studio 13.0.21 behaves a lot nicer. Too bad I need both and Resharper cannot be turned on and off without restarting VS, but that is not a problem for this community I think.
