generic extraction

can any body explain what is generic extraction and whin do we go generic extraction with view , function module ,table and in real time which one is used more.

    Hello,

    generic extractors are normally used if you have customer data (for example data from Z* tables) that you want to load into BW/BI. Otherwise, you would use the Business Content DataSources (Extractors) and enhance them if neccessary.

    Navigate to Data Warehousing -> Data Acquisition -> Data Extraction from SAP Source System -> Functions in the SAP Source System -> Maitaining Generic DataSources
