Infocube Compression Process taking long time.

Hi All,

I prepared a process chain to compress all my SD cubes. But I see, its taking very very long time. I know the data is very high(3 yrs). Can anybody tell me what all the process does during compression? Can I cancel the compression process in anyways ? Please advise.

Thanks & Regards,

MR

    Hi Manash,

Well while compression the data is moved from f table to e table and all the req ids present in f tables is read and deleted and correspondingly moved to E table. to its a read processs and then write process. You cannot remove any process to make compression faster.

    You can refer 407260 Note.

To stop process in between either u delete job from SM37 or go to SM66 and delete job without core.

    Thanks.

compression of cube is used to improve the performance. During compression the data is moved from F fact table to E fact table.

once the cube is compressed you can't delete the data, but if you don't want the data in the cube you can go for reverse posting to make all key figure values Zero.

    2. If you want to cancel the process in Process chain below are the steps

When you see any job is running longer than it's actual time you kill the job and restart.

one way is we can directly select the job in SM37 and click on STop button. Still If it is not cancelled then

other way is in SM37, Double click on the job, job details Tab - Copy the PID number there.

    Go to SM66 T code

Find the PID there, After selecting the PID - Edit menu - process - Cancel without core.

You can firts drop indexes of your cube, then compress. Deleting indexes will improve your compression performance. Create indexes after the compression.

    Hope this helps.
