ORA-12638: Credential retrieval failed

When I try to backup my solution manager system (running Oracle 10i / windows 2003), I get the following error:

BR0002I BRARCHIVE 7.00 (26)

BR0006I Start of offline redo log processing: adxclpcn.sve 2008-01-23 18.01.09

BR0484I BRARCHIVE log file: F:\oracle\SMR\saparch\adxclpcn.sve

BR0280I BRARCHIVE time stamp: 2008-01-23 18.01.10

BR0301E SQL error -12638 at location BrInitOraCreate-2, SQL statement:

'CONNECT / AT PROF_CONN IN SYSOPER MODE'

ORA-12638: Credential retrieval failed

BR0303E Determination of Oracle version failed

BR0007I End of offline redo log processing: adxclpcn.sve 2008-01-23 18.01.10

BR0280I BRARCHIVE time stamp: 2008-01-23 18.01.10

BR0005I BRARCHIVE terminated with errors

Do you use domain accounts for SAP technical accounts (SAPService<SID>)?

If so, under which user runs your Oracle service (OracleService<SID>)?

Hi,

As mentioned above perform all the activities from a user who is added to dba group (ora<instancename>). also check wether you are able to connect to the Oracle DB using userid and password from the prompt, if not then try this

Please check the sqlnet.ora file. Change the following entry and try, this will work.

Original Entry - SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES= (NTS)

Modified Entry - SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES= (NONE)
