Exploding BOM in sales order only in case KIT-Header is not available

Hi guys,

I am trying to setup a kit-to-order process where we only explode the BOM in sales order in case there is no stock available for the kit-header.

In standard setup (which is working fine already) the setting to explode BOM or not is based on the item category. I am thinking about an enhancement to determine item category based on availability check for kit-header in user exit but was hoping to get a hint here about how to solve it via means of standard.
