Yard Management and Handling Unit Management

I am configuring yard Management in ECC6.0 for a LSP business. Ecc 6.0 is standard and not LSP sepcific industry.

Requirement is :

Track the Container once unloaded at the Port with its content - This I have mapped as HU management.

Recieve the Container at the Freight Forwarder (FF) Whse and perform Check In activity. .

Ability to issue Gate Pass once vehicle arrives at the ,FF whse.

Keep track of inventory of Containers by Shipping Line.

Recieve Empty containers from Shipping line.

Know the container as to how long it has been at the FF Whse to bill the Shiping line for Storage charges of the Container.

Solution concept:

I am thinking that this will be used with HU management and Yard Management. Only doubt I have is that whether Yard Management will track my Containers or Not. The Gate Pass Issued by Yard Management is for the Vehicle and not the Container.

Any inputs will be highly appreciated

Thanks

Raj

Hi Rajendra,

Yard management also used handling units. When you create the packaging material for the containers for the yard, use the category 'transport equipment' as opposed to "means of transport".

Then you can assign the container to the shipment and both(shipment/container) should have the same container id no.

By gate pass, i assume you are talking about checkin/checkout functionality of yard management.

Hope it helps.

Hi Rajeevan,

Thanks for your Reply. I have already did the same as mentioned by you. My Query was that as I am assigning a Yard to a Whse , which in turn in assigned to a Plan/Sloc. Question was do I need to make this SLOC as HU managed SLOC if I need to use the Yard Management functionality?

Secondly , Clients requirement is to track teh Trailer as well as the Container. This I am achieving by Creating a Material as Trailer with Pack Material as "Means of Transport " and Container as " Transport equipment". I also read something about Logical HU which we assign in teh Yard Management Config. I have assigend the Trailer as the Vehicle Type here and the Logical HU = the container. Also the need is to Track reports by container Size ie 20feet, 20FeetH , 40 Feet, 40 FeetH , 45Feet and 45feetH trailer. I have configured this as packaging Material catefory as "Transport Equipment".

Any feedback or your contact details to have a discussion will help.

Thanks for the help.

Regards

Rajendra

No you do not need to make it a HUM managed storage location.

Do you need the tracking reports for finding how many days the container is in the yard without incurring demurrages ?

You can try to configure the yard alerts for it. But if you specifically

want the reports, then, defining different packaging sizes is the way

to go for the different trailers and then creating a ZReport for it.

Package: LXYRD, table - LYACT

Incidentally are going to update shipment statues via Yard Mgmnt

RF functionality ?

Hi Rajeev,

Thanks for the Answer. yes, I need reports to Track the Container by Freight Forwarder ie if a Container belongs to P&O Nedlyod shipping line then I should get the details of teh same . Also Empty Container comes in and then its loaded with Outbound delivery. I am putting the container number in the Container field when we do the check in and putting the forwarding agent as the respective shipping line that way I will know how many container of different size of Forwarder is in my Yard.

Also client wants a way to create a Container Master ie The shipping line gives a list of Empty containers which are lying at the Port. Only when the client needs the containers , he will ask for the same with the shipping line. Not sure is there any standard way of handling this in Yard Management. I am more inclined to make a Z Table to store this data.

Also in the process once I have the container in the Yard , I need to stuff this container with Deliveries. I am planning to Pack the Delivery goods on a Pallet and then Pack this Pallet on to the Conatiner. I am doing this via VL02n transaction . I was somehow unable to locate the Container by Conainer ID when I need to stuff the same in VL02N. Maybe I am missing something or is the data not available? If not , then I plan to get the same by means of some user exit on the HU side ie Check for a HU which is Empty and has the type 20 feet or 40 feet as the case may be and show a Pop up of the same and let user select the COntainer in which he needs to pack the Pallets.

Any pointers will be highly appreciated.

Cant you assign outbound deliveries to the container using the yard monitor (LYRDM) ?

The way i seen it before : deliveries associated to a shipment then the shipment was assigned to a container.

Outbound deliveries should also be able to be assigned to the container. (Shipment makes it fewer/manageable).

Thanks Rajeevan,

To answer your previous question , we do not intend to usa RF . Same is out of Scope.

Also I am still unclear as you mentioned that SLOC should not be HU managed. Reason I am asking again and sorry for the same , is that I need to know the Inventory of the containers in my Yard , whether Full or Empty for shipping line with Container Numbers and Size as my client also stores empty containers for shipping line in his Yard and this also helps him with the Stuffing Plan for outbound deliveries.

As suggested , I will pack the Deliveries into Shipment and Shipment will be packed in the Container.

Appreciate your help.

Lets see:

We have a plant/storage location. A warehouse is attached to it. A yard is implemented for the warehouse.

Yard keeps tracks of vehicles via handling units(but you dont have to make it into a HU managed SLOC) . When you create a vehicle, an "internal HU" is generated. Now you can just check in the empty container or assign it to an outbound document or inbound document.

If assigned to inbound, status is full and unloading makes it "empty" and vice versa for outbound documents.

LYVHC -Yard Inventory Status can give you the status of inventory in your yard.(Length, height , weight, Status -(Empty, Partial Full, Full ), Parking Location etc )

I am still perplexed why do you want to make it into a HU managed SLoc unless you are storing stuff in HU in the location.

Try it in the Sandbox without making it HU managed, then if it does not suit the requirement, turn the HU indicator on.

Personally, I have not used HU managed SLoc just for Yard Mgmt.

HU managed SLOC increases the level of complexity /transaction load and unless there is good benefits from it, it should not be turned on.

Hi Rajeevan,

Thanks for your reply. I have a requirement for Sea Imports when the Container is loaded with goods and is kept in my warehouse. Typically the container with goods in it is at my warehouse till the consignee come to pick up the goods. I would say we need to know what is in the container , whom does the goods in the container belong to if the container is laden , also to know who is the forwarding agent from whom the container has come.

In fact , I can create a sloc which is not HU managed and see if the container is Laden and go from VEKP table to take the reference delivery or Shipment for the HU , look up that Delievry and see its contents and report the same.

Thanks for all your feedback on this Post.

Cheers!!!!
