Remote Hosting Business One

Hello,

Is it possible or advisable to host Sap Business One remotely and users would access via a Citrix or Terminal Services like connection? This would be for all users all the time - not just some users.

We are currently looking into hosting our Business One and Netpoint at a managed hosting company. I am wondering is there would be any performance issues or problems without having physical access to the servers. We are looking to do this for backup, uptime and security issues.

The remote servers would run Exchange, Outlook, Word and Excel. Another concern I have is how the outlook integration would work in a setup like this.

Thank You

Henry,

We are hosting all of our Business One users with terminal services. So we are basically a hosting site, where we control the maintenance and backups of the servers and provide all central application support.

At the user sites, we have made sure that their connection to the internet is fast enough, and that they have a local company that deals with the PC/networking items.

Make sure that your hosting site either dedicates a terminal server to you, that they will respond quickly to user maintenance and that their pipe in is big enough to manage your business.

Works great for us, but since we actually control everything, we use a Thin Print server for remote printing, and have internal support for all of our terminal service servers. Alerts work fine, as does exporting to Excel.

Since we don't use Outlook, I can't address that, but with the proper setup, it should be fine.

Hi Henry,

Couple of things to take into consideration:

Number of Users

Number of transaction (volume)

Requirement for Workflow management like Alerts, Authorizations, etc.

Generally, I have seen companies have certain number of users from outside accessing SAP but I have never come across a requirement like yours where all users will be remote.

Both Citrix and Terminal Services are viable solution but all depends on the first 3 points.

Performance also depends on the above 3 points + the connection speeds / internet.

Let me know
