How to change variable description

Variable description is not getting into edit mode for changing description.

Is the query locked in a request ?

How are you trying to change the description ...did you try from left hand panel.

Or

RClick - Restrict - Variables- Select - Click on the change variable /pencil icon - See if it can be changed..

This happens n most of the cases. Check if you have authorization to change the created ones. Else you can create another variable and use it.
