Hi All,
Can anybody help me out regarding Variant Configuration with BOM. Kindly explain with suitable example. Plz don't give any link of SAP help coz that I've already refered but still in confusion. If anybody is having document of VC with BOM then plz send it to "ipsit3@gmail.com"
Do the needful at earliest.
Thanks
hello, friend.
generally, variant configuration is helpful when you would like to maintain a limited number of material codes but there are many variations to the finished goods. here you may find an example of variant configuration...
let's say you're in the business of selling make-to-order motorcycles. you can customize the following:
1. engine displacement (100cc, 125cc and 155cc)
2. color of frame (red, blue, yellow)
3. tires (standard, trail)
you also may want to set up pricing so that how much the material is depends on combination of engine - color - tires that the customer wants.
therefore, your final motorcycle product can be a combination of any of the above. now let us translate your requirements to SAP terminology.
1. the final motorcycle product may be termed as "Configurable Material", which is created using KMAT as material type.
2. the engine displacement, color of frame and tires are "Characteristics". when you enter the configurable material in the sales order, the system will let you select which selections you want for Engine, Color and Tires. for variant pricing, you also have to include Price as a Characteristic. characteristics values can be "100cc", "125cc" and "155cc" for engine; "red", "yellow" and "blue" for color; and "standard" and "trail" for tires.
3. you set up Class, which refers to the Configurable Material and which consists of the Characteristics you defined.
4. you have to set up Profile, which is assigned to the Configurable Material.
5. finally, you set variant pricing using VK11 and condition type VA00 (e.g. for "100cc" the price is $100, for "125cc" price is $125, "155cc" price is $150)
when you enter the configurable material in the sales order, the system will let you select which selections you want for Engine, Color and Tires. if the process requires assembly, the finished material is issued to sales order stock which is linked directly to your original sales order.
hope this helped.
regards.

Hi,
To be particular on this topic, can anybody help me??
This is the scenario, that for me PC is a configurable material and CPU is a BOM type. So PC can be characterstics like Monitor with values 15",17" and so on. Mouse- optical, normal etc. And now CPU is a BOM having components like hard disk, MB, RAM etc.
So when the PC will explode how the CPU BOM should expolde??
If I am wrong with this scenario, plz correct me and give a right path.
Plz help me, it's urgent!!!!!!!!
Thanks
Ipsit

Hi ,
Variant configuration is a Process of modelling products while the bill of material (BOM) of a configurable material contains all the components that are required to manufacture the material.
Well in a general process of Variant configuration we create a BOM of a material using transaction CS01. According to scenerio, we assign Selection Conditions on different items in the BOM.
And then we write rules(constraints) to make these Selection conditions True. we can make individual selection conditions True so that the particular BOM item will be exploded. We have to group these constraints in a dependency net CU21.
These constraints use the characteristics value of the material.
Then we assign this Dependency net in the Configuration ProfileCU41 of that material.
( OR)
create main material : MM01 (KMAT type)
create component materials : MM01 ( can be any type)
goto CS01 . here enter the main material and make it universal.
here enter all the components associated with main material .
depending on the character selection u can write the dependecy for each component .
just click the component and click the dependency editor symbol. there u can write the selection conditions. or preconditions ... etc .. and depending on that u can control the bom explosion in the sales order ...
if you give me brief i can help you out more.
if helpful REWARD points
Thank you .
Regards

Hello,
If you take the exaple of a CAR, then COLOUR can be a variant. Imagine, there is a requirement for a 'METTALIC RED' car, the sales people creates the variant and create the sales order with CAR as the material and 'METTALIC RED' as the variant. The requirement of this will be passed to Production Planning. They will create BOM (the raw materials required to manufactrue 'METTALIC RED' variant) and attach it and proceed.

Hi Ipsit,
refer to my step by step guide on VC. Therre's an example on BOM as well.
