SAP SYBASE BACKUP INSTANCE NOT AVAILABLE + during sybase 15.7 to 16 upgrade

Hi Sybase group,

i am in course of upgrading sap sybase from 15.7 to 16.

xxxxxx Desktop/sybase> ./setup.bin -f /root/Desktop/sybase/dbsrvresp_major.txt -i silent -DUSER_INSTALL_DIR="${SYBASE}"

The installation was successful.

error on this stage

xxxxxx Desktop/sybase> ./upgrade_bs_rdbms.sh /sybase/DBSID DBSID DBSID_BS# Enter SAP ASE "sa" user password:

===> Copy /sybase/SMG/ASE-15_0/sysam/SMG.properties to /sybase/SMG/ASE-16_0/sysam/SMG.properties

===> Upgrade SAP ASE "SMG"...

Unable to boot server 'SMG'.

troubleshoot

under the /sybase/SID/ASE-16_0/install

RUN_SMG_BS does not exist

these are the only files i see under the install directory

RUN_SMG

what am i missing?
