BW as storage system

Hi Experts,

We are currently implementing SAP BI 7.0(HR) for reporting .There is a requirement to store legacy data of the client from different source systems into a repository which we can query from in the future. At the moment the archiving team is suggesting using the SAP BW system. The data will be brought into the SAP BW system using DB Connect.

There are more than 50 legacy systems and the consolidated historical data would range between 200 to 500 Gb. This data is not currently required for reporting however the BI System will be used to store data at the PSA level. In future they may want to add this data to reporting, but it is not required at the moment.

We are concerned that loading all these historical data will have a negative impact on the performance of the BI System, even if queries are not currently built for them. Our understanding from SDN documents that; the data can be stored in PSA tables and Write-optimized DSO.

If the historical data is stored in Write-optimized DSO, will it affect the normal BI reports which are built on Standard DSO?

Would appreciate any advice if you have dealt with a similar situation or have a view on the above.

Kindly let us know if you require additional information.

Regards,

Raja
