Integration of MAM with GIS

Hello Gurus,

We have Developed an SAP-GIS integration project. Current Scenario is that, GIS (Maps is front end) is our UI, User selects a map location on the map and corresponding function location pass to SAP to get details about the location.

We have to implement same scenario using Mobile PDA.

I mean, PDA is having GPS system when any user selects any location corresponding information about the location has to get from SAP using MAM. Will it possible?. By seeing MAM XApps document I came to know that using MAM we can connect to GIS Maps too. I want other way. In the above case MAM application is front end from PDA when you are creating a notification you can select a map.

I wanted to select MAP first then create a notification using MAM.

Can anybody throws lighten on this.

I appreciate your help.

Regards,

Ameer Baba.

Hi,

unfortunately not possible in standard MAM with the actual code as I see. But this can be done if you develop that stuff by your own I think. I have not totally understood the scenario you described, but if you want to select the position from the MAP and then create the Notificartion from it - well, at the end this is not a problem. The question is: do you have all infos on the device you need in MAM. It will not be possible to have the location of all FunctLocs down on the PDA in MAM, cause the memory of the PDA cannot handle this and sync times will be awfull low. But you can get these infos from a self developed loc.DB for example and use it in MAM for selection in GIS MAP. Open your thinking a little outsiode the boundaries and you see that this is no problem at all.

In standard MAM - as my previous poster said - unfortunately this is not possible.

Hi Oliver,

Thanks a lot for sharing your thoughts. I do believe that nothing is impossible in this world.

Coming to scenario, We thought of going to Laptop instead of PDA to over come memory business. My business requirement is that, field force can able to connect to SAP( to create notification, change the status etc.) using maps as their front end. They will identify the functional location using the map (GIS) in the field. After working on that functional location they can able to connect SAP to change the status of the notification from the field.Or else they can able to create/change/modify notification etc.Their front should be all the time GIS only.Mean that using map they can able to connect SAP to do normal MAM business functionality. Whatever the above said thing we are achieved and doing in the office. But we want extend that functionality in the field too. I mean the field force after finishing their work, are coming to office to enter the data. We want achieve this functionality in the field too. I hope I have not confused you now. I am brainstorming myself to achieve this functionality and welcoming your thoughts too.

Once again I appreciate your suggestion Oliver.

Please let me know in case of more clarity you wanted.

Ameer Baba.

Hi,

well, if I would be you......

Google Maps or another GIS tool. Download the location data into a MS-SQL DB (can be synced automatically with build in functionality and the size is not the problem) - use MI and SyncBO in the browser for generating and handling the MAM data. Put all together into a fanzy UI - voila!

I think this can be done without hassle in a timeframe you can overlook.

Well, this is my thought......

Oliver
