Excel to Crystal Reports for sql report writing

We have a general standard for generating reports and would like to know if Crystal reports would somewhat simplify the process.

Here is the general process we do to generate reports. We use 3 to 4 different tools and software to get this done. First we use Windows batch scripting to active an SQL script that will then dump the results into a text file. Then we use visual basic to get the results from the text file and insert it into an a excel document which tends to be very complicated base on how much code we have to write.

We are wondering if Crystal Reports would some how simplify one of these steps but I can't find any good information online if this would be the case. in general we would like to avoid some of the scripting if possible.

    Hi Alex,

    What database are you reporting against?

    You should be able to connect CR directly to the database (via ODBC/OLEDB) and generate a report off of a Custom SQL query.

      Sybase, I'm able to connect with no issues but was wondering if we could simplify it it without scripting.
