Hi All,
Can anybody pls explain the Difference between SAP MDM & I2 MDM.
I mean to say comparision between both (strength and weekness)
Edited by: Rupesh Kumar Singh on Jan 12, 2008 10:23 AM
I have worked on i2 MDM since 2004, some experience in TIBCO MDM and am now in the last day of SAP MDM training class. From my Experience, I can say:
- i2 MDM is really SOA - XML, I dont see SAP-MDM that way
- i2 MDM has a very good visual and easy to use workflow editor/Studio . Use it, and you will ponder on the way we do workflows in SAP
- SAP has a good Import, Export handling GUIs, unlike i2 where we use Excel templates(Not so difficult to do)
- SAP uses Portals, ie, tied. i2 MDM UI can be deployed on an webservers like Websphere, Weblogic.
Anyone please feel free to correct me.

Hi,
Here are sme of the advantages of SAP MDM and i2 MDM
SAP MDM:
SAP MDM enables master data on customers, partners and products to be consolidated and harmonized across the enterprise, making it available to all staff and business partners. A key component of SAP NetWeaver, SAP MDM ensures data integrity across all IT systems. With SAP NetWeaver MDM, customers can manage master data and supplemental content, such as texts, PDF documents, high-resolution images, or diagrams in a central business information warehouse.
Advantages of SAP MDM
SAP Master Data Management (SAP MDM) is a component of SAP's NetWeaver product group and is used as a platform to consolidate, cleanse and synchronise a single version of the truth for master data within a heterogeneous application landscape. It has the ability to distribute internally and externally to SAP and non-SAP applications. SAP MDM is a key enabler of SAP Enterprise Service-Oriented Architecture. Standard system architecture would consist of a single central MDM server connected to client systems through SAP Exchange Infrastructure using XML documents, although connectivity without SAP XI can also be achieved
There are five standard implementation scenarios:
Content Consolidation
Master Data Harmonisation
Central Master Data Management
Rich Product Content Management
Global Data Synchronization
i2 MDM
Key components of i2 Master Data Management can include:
i2 MDM for Planning Data: can manage data staging and maintenance for supply chain planning implementations
i2 MDM for Product Information: can aggregate, standardize, and provide easy access to item and supplier information from multiple sources
i2 Master Data Management capabilities can include:
Access to domain templates, including prepackaged data models, data management workflows, and role-based user interfaces
Customizable data management and synchronization
Graphical workflow management, data modeling, and management tools
Integration with existing enterprise data systems
Access to ISO 9000-certified i2 Data Services, including data audits, cleansing, and extraction
Benefits of i2 Master Data Management can include:
Creation of synchronized, current data across information systems, improving business decisions
Access to and visibility into data across multiple systems
A single, trusted data thesaurus across the enterprise
Reduced costs of IT and data maintenance
Weakness of i2 MDM
i2 Master Data Management is not a good choice for firms that need print catalog management functionality. One of i2s challenges is that it is not known as a PIM vendor a problem that can be fixed with marketing

Nisha
