Questions around Registered Product - Hybris Cloud for Customer (Service)

Hi Hybris Eexperts,

I have couple of questions around the registered product creation & maintenance:

  1. Is there's a way that we can create a registered product as a copy from existing one?
(The case here that the registered product contains multiple sub-items, so it would be of ease of use to have ready made templates for the different products and copy from it when registering a single instance)
  2. Can we make the customer field optional upon creation, following same logic of making the serial ID optional in (Registered Product Category) ?
  3. Following same logic of the installed base, can we add a single product (not registered) in the sub-items in the registered product ?

Appreciate your kind clarification in the above questions.

Regards;

Obada

Hello there Obada,
We evaluated your questions raised on this topic by researching pertinent documentation and by testing on our internal test system (with latest 1711 release). Here is our findings:

Q1) Is there's a way that we can create a registered product as a copy from existing one?
A1: We could not locate any standard means to achieve this. You should seek our Ideas Place or reach a custom implementation partner (such as CSC Cloud Service Center).

Q2) Can we make the customer field optional upon creation, following same logic of making the serial ID optional in (Registered Product Category)?
A2: We tried to edit the master layout in our internal test system; when we opened the options for the customer field, 'mandatory' flag was greyed out, so we can infer that key dependencies are defined in the standard code between the two BOs (Registered Product and Customer). Ideas Place or CSC as next steps.

Q3) Following same logic of the installed base, can we add a single product (not registered) in the sub-items in the registered product ?
A3: We could not locate such option, even by searching possible options to add in the standard master layout. Our understanding is that it may not be possible to achieve what you want by standard means. Ideas Place or CSC as next steps once more.

Surely other experts can have more insights on these first raised findings, so we welcome any other peers that want to comment on possibilities for this. We hope this helps you, Obada. Bye!

Fabio, Thank you for your inputs, We've gone through search & troubleshooting eventually reached almost same thoughts.

Ideas Place (Influence) generally would be a nice option future wise, but for the time being with the customer requirement a work around has to be designed.

Again thanks & welcoming any further elaboration or thoughts you might have.

Obada

Hello Obada,

  1. Is there's a way that we can create a registered product as a copy from existing one?
(The case here that the registered product contains multiple sub-items, so it would be of ease of use to have ready made templates for the different products and copy from it when registering a single instance)
Ans: The feature of creating a registered product which contains multiple sub-items by copying from another registered product with the same architecture is not supported.
  2. Can we make the customer field optional upon creation, following same logic of making the serial ID optional in (Registered Product Category) ?
Ans: As of now, there is no standard way from which you can make the customer field optional. However, if a registered product is created from ERP (replication scenario) then and only then customer field is not mandatory. Otherwise, customer field is a mandate for Registered Product creation.
  3. Following same logic of the installed base, can we add a single product (not registered) in the sub-items in the registered product ?
Ans: Only if a registered product has an installed based assigned to it, then you can navigate to the installed base items, select the registered product and add a lower level product to the registered product.
