Hi Giri,

1. in APO , it is divided into APO database server and LIVECACHE server. as my understanding, the APO database server is used to store like DP history in the cube and back up planning area data in the cube and product master ect for SNP AND PPDS, but for the livecache is used to store transcational data like planning area data and SNP, PPDS transcational data.

2. normally we install APO databased server and livecache in one server.

cheers,

Hema.

Hi Giri, also check this.

Advanced Planner and Optimizer (APO) is a set of software applications from the German-based software company SAP for supply chain management. According to SAP literature, Advanced Planner and Optimizer is designed to help a company improve production planning, pricing, scheduling, and product shipping. APO works by getting real-time updates from retailers about customer demand. The updates are used to create APO "demand triggers" that take into account many complex variables, such as the delivery schedule of raw materials and productions cycles, to forecast the right amount of product mix the company will need to meet future customer demands. APO can be integrated with the SAP R/3 and legacy enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems.

APO consists of eight application levels: network design, demand planning, supply network planning, production planning and detailed scheduling, global availability, transportation planning and vehicle scheduling, and supply chain collaboration.

As APO is playing a major part in Supply Chaim Management which in turn, also relates to sales, to some extent, you should be aware of this APO function.

And,

SAP APO enables organizations to create a very close match between supply and demand by integrating purchasing, manufacturing, distribution, and transportation into one consistent model. By modeling the entire supply network and related constraints, SAP APO is able to synchronize activities and plan material flow throughout the entire supply chain. The results are feasible plans for purchasing, manufacturing, inventory, and transportation.

SAP APO also includes functionality to enable organizations to dynamically determine how and when inventory should be distributed. The system draws on the data universally available in liveCache to optimize deployment plans based on available algorithms, as well as user rules and policies. In the benchmark, we use mass processing, which allows you to run the heuristic planning for large numbers of product-location combinations, with mass processing jobs running concurrently in the background.

kindly reward if found helpful.

cheers,

Hema.
