Hi am new to legacy extraction ...Can any one let me know how to proceed...? Actually we have 3 legacy systems and I need to design the cubes to get the historical data in to BI ...Please let me know
what are the initial steps and how I can extract from Legacy systems....i.e :
Is it only possible with DB / UD connect ? / If I will get the Legacy data as flat files can it be possible to just load those flat files and build the cube ....
When they are going to provide me the Legacy flat files what are all the questions do I need to raise (like conversion rotuines , Macros ...etc) ....
Also when I get the flat files...Do I suggest them to store those flat files in AL11 directories / are they going to store somewhere (application directories )...?
If I will be asked to do the flat file load Can I just ask them where the flat files are located (the path) or is it a basic question ?
Can I reuse the standard infoobjects / do I need to create separately ?
Also can any one send me the documents if you have any regarding the legacy (historical data) extraction through flat files....
Please advice....
regards

Legacy systems can be connectd using UD Connect,no need f flat files
fields from legacy system should be checked with infobjects available from business content or create custom infoobjects based on length and nature of field in legacy. You have to do mapping(one to one or routines) between legacy and infoobjects before you load .
If you want to go through for flat files then application server has to have those files collected from the legacy systems (legacy sys creates flat files) ,you can use NTFS if its same aplication sever or FTP to transfer files or MQ series ..and use Infopackage to load files.
UD connect
