Geo Mapping at the County Level in Webi 4.2

Former Member

In Webi, it's quite easy for BO to resolve state names to lat./long. coordinates, with only a few states -- like Georgia (as it's also a country) falling out and needing to be manually selected from a drop down menu.

County names are a different story, however. County names that are unique in the USA are able to be resolved to Lat. Long. coordinates in BO. But County names that are not unique, like Washington County, must be manually selected from a drop down.

The problem is that unlike States, there are over 3,000 counties in the USA. And a map at the county level will most likely contain a couple hundred counties, if not a thousand of them. This is the problem: manually selecting a couple hundred counties from a drop down, to find the correct county/state combo, will just not cut it in terms of efficiency and use of time.

Since BO is able to resolve some of the Counties, it's obvious that BO has county lat./ long. coordinates in it's internal database. I have tried passing just county name, and a concatenation of County, State (e.g. Blue Earth County, Minnesota) to the "Edit as Geography" function in Webi -- but I am still not able to uniquely identify the majority of my Counties.

My questions is this: what do I need to pass to the "Edit as Geography" function in Webi to unique identify counties so I do not have to manually select a thousand county names from a drop down menu so they can be resolved to lat. long. coordinates.

Any help or ideas are greatly appreciated. Thank you!
