Hi All,
I'm trying to customize some of the ESS iViews but dont hv a starting point. After hving gone thru the various posts on SDN forums, am still unclear regarding the following:
Is setting up JDI or NWDI mandatory for customizing ESS iViews?
If not, how can we setup the project in NWDS to proceed with the customization? Do we need to import the par file into NWDS? If so, from where is this file avl? We've identified the WD application to be modified but dont know how to import and setup the environment for the IDE.
Any documentation on these would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
prachi
Hi Prachi,
You can also try out the personalization method for ESS iveiw customization depending upon the complexity and type of the customization needed. This is a lot easier method rather than going to NWDI. But of course, again it depends on what is the type of customization required ? You can go to personalization method, if you want to rename a field label, hide a field, add new field, add some label etc. You can refer to https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/wiki?path=/display/profile/ess%2bpersonal%2binformation%2bui%2benhan.... Also pleaese refer http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04s/helpdata/en/42/ed3ce7f8593eebe10000000a1553f7/frameset.htm
Also, if you want to put some validation , first chek if there are some avaliable BADI's which can suffice your requirement. For example, if you want to restrict the user to enter only numeric values in telephone no field in address service, you can do this through BADI HRPAD00INFTYUI. Similarly, there are many BADI's avaliable for leave request. So please first check of the avaliablity of BADI's and also, check out the PERSONALIZATION method for handling the changes.

Setting up of the NWDI is mandatory to customize the ESS applications. You have to import all ESS SCA files delivered by SAP in to the NWDI track to be able to get them into NWDS for custom developments.
There is step by step XSS cookbook for this, send me your email id such that I can send it over to you.
Let me know know if you have any other questions. Please reward the points if this is helpful.
Thanks,
Seshu.
