Its quite possible people would have asked this question before but with Lumira 2 release I still don't see this basic feature in Lumira Designer yet and not sure if roadmap has one.

The feature I am looking for like many others

one data source -> multiple components -> an independent view per component (Similar to webi). The best way to explain is to refer how webi work, you make one query or data provider and from it one can fork out multiple views/block. Each block you can analyze independently without changing data source or other blocks and if need be connect other blocks too but not disturb data provider

Ramu/David/SAP , I will be thankful to you if you please advise what's your position on above and if any plan. Please note I am asking for Lumira Designer but if discovery also has it its even better

Hi Nitin,

I recall seeing this requirement being submitted on the Idea Place. Such functionality is not explicitly listed on the current Roadmap as far as I can see. I am assuming you are requesting this from a performance perspective similar to WebI. I suggest you try the Offline Data Source interoperability feature in Lumira Designer 2.0. You still need to create separate data sources for each component but because the data is embedded in the Lumira Document it should be more performant than a live connection.

Regards,

Mustafa.

Hi Mustafa,

Thank you for quick response.

Performance is only one consideration, functionality is more of concern for me. For example, for a chart I want to show corresponding data in tabular format (on click of toggle button). This table needs to be crosstab but since crosstab always links to data source, it shows more than what chart shows. Even if I setup one more DS, then how to link both without changing data source is the questions and then same DS is base for other charts which I don't want to change.

Likewise, there are other complication it throws and one has to do so much circus to achieve basic thing.

I have single HANA view which has all I need to build a dashboard but can't have one data source to feed all charts to be shown in one go. Thus I have optimized the data provider but end tool is creating limitations.

Nitin

Hi Nitin,

For reusing the same data source in the Crosstab scenario you can apply the technique described in this blog:

https://blogs.sap.com/2014/07/28/sap-design-studio-showinghiding-crosstab-columns-with-measures-with-css-and-scripting/

Other than that, if your charts all require different dimensions from the same query/view, you have no choice but to create separate data sources.

Mustafa.

ok Mustafa...that shows some hope ...but that's what I call circus :-)

Thank you for pointing out to me..

additionally I will wait for some helpful comment from SAP team...

Hi Nitin - I don't work for SAP, but searching I found this: http://visualbi.com/blogs/extensions/new-release-visual-bi-extensions-sap-lumira-2-0-vbx/ - partners may have solutions for this

Thank you Tammy for quick response, I am aware of the partner extension but looking for solution from product side. Partner solution, companies and clients have hesitation to go with (have limitation like in this case not able to control aggregation type). Also, this seems to be very basic feature of an analytic tool, so wondering what thought process goes at SAP to not have it so far and if they have plan for it.
