Err msg Goodwill global: All posting items must be specified after upgrade

Hi ,

After we upgarde our SEM-BCS from 3.2 to 6.0 , we got error message "Goodwill global: All posting items must be specified" when click the Check Setting in COI. The Goodwill global setting is not in 3.2. What should we do to solve this issue? And, do we need to adjust our ODS to the new structure according to Note 1080686 - Upgrade to SEM-BCS 6.0 - infrastructure enhancements?

Hi Jeff,

Is your implementation just technical upgrade from 3.2 to 6.0?

BCS has evolved a lot from 3.2 to 6.0. There are many process enhancements. There are also additional screens. The internal infrastructure has changed.The FINBASIS has also upgraded from 200 to 600 (BCS 6.0) or 700 (BCS 6.0 EHP 2.0). Apart from the note 1080686 mentioned by you, please have a look at the following note: 1095298.

Approaches differ from consultant to consultant. If I were you, I would have chosen to re-configure the whole BCS itself, under another new consolidation area using same data basis and master data, with all new features included in order to take the benefits of enhanced features of BCS 6.0.

The basic features of BCS 3.2 is still available in 6.0 , plus some added features.

BCS 6.0 is still running on BW cube/ODS(DSO) architecture.

It would not be a correct consultancy approach to go for re-configuration particularly for upgrade from BCS 3.2 to 6.0 where the basic architecture is same.

First , thank you for ur quick reply.

We are trying to make it a pure technical upgrade. But, like you said ,

BCS has evolved a lot from 3.2 to 6.0. The internal infrastructure has changed a lot.

Just wondering , is there any tool to migrate the the setting to 6.0 ?

Ya, the basic features are still there. But, do we have the option not to use the new added functions? That's my concern.( especially the COI part )

Hi Jeff,

If you donot need the additional functionality such as Assets related ODS/cube, datamarting of master data, you can ignore. Unless you activate these will not be active.

I suggest you regenerate the data basis/consolidation area and check if the issue is gone. BW wise there is no major changes( BCS point of view)except that ODS has been renamed as DSO!!

It will good approach to check these notes ,in the context of your support pack level.

Besides I suggest you to submit the message to SAP on priority basis.

I can help further to dig out some details for you in my evening time( since I am BCS 6.0 Bex reporting project)

Hi Mani ,

After we upgrade to 6.0 , we see some error regarding the ODS of COI data. We follow the instruction of note 1080686 - Upgrade to SEM-BCS 6.0 - infrastructure enhancements to install some new Goodwill related infoobjects and regenerate the databasis. After that, we can use UCWB. But, when use the "Check setting" under COI , the system report the error msg "Goodwill global: All posting items must be specified". It seems that we need to configure the new setting of "Goodwill global" which is not in 3.2.

Our SEM-BW and FINBASIS patch level are on the latest one.

Anyway , I will open a message for this issue asap. thank you.

Hi Jeff,

AFAIR, there are more posting items to be configured in 6.0 comparing with 3.2.

You may assign some items to needed fields (posting items).

Additionally, if you want to go further, without waiting of reply from SAP support, you may try to change treatment of goodwill from global to method specific.

You'll be able to change it back later.

Thx for the reply. You mention about change treatment of goodwill from global to method specific. Do you mean the "Further settings" in COI/Setting/System Utilization?

In our setting ,

Extraordinary Amortization of Goodwill & Extraordinary Amortization of Negative Goodwill are checked and set to Per Method. Others are unchecked and set to global which can't be changed. Does not that mean we don't have to further configure the Goodwill global? Please advise.

Yes, you are right, System utilization menu item.

It's strange. Do you have Global Goodwill menu item at all?

Anyway, I'd recommend to check Ordinary Amortization of GW (and negative GW), and set them to per method. And try.

If it doesn't help - try to find some OSS notes.

Hi Eugene,

Just find Note 979821 - Changes in goodwill Customizing in SEM-BCS 6.0 (ERP2005) which might relate to our issue.

Methods: In Release 6.0 you can no longer define statistical

goodwill items in the consolidation of investments; instead you

have to enter them in Customizing for goodwill global. Therefore,

there are no assignment screens for statistical goodwill items in

Customizing. (However, if in lower releases you have defined

statistical goodwill items in the method, there are assignment

screens. In this case, you can continue to store account

assignments of statistical goodwill items in the method.)

Maybe we have to reconfigure something to Goodwill global.

We will try to figure it out. Thx.

That SAP Note 979821 is the most relevant in your scenario.

You may have to reconfigure to take care of COI moving on.
