Batch determination and split batches

We're using auto batch determination for sales order deliveries. When we enter an order for a single item which can be fulfilled with a single batch, SAP delivery shows it as batch split. When we see the batch split it is just a single batch for that single line.

For example, a sales order is created with one line item for qty of 10. In the delivery, the first line has no batch assigned and a second line is created for the quantity of 10 (with a batch assigned.)

Does anyone know why this would happen?

For more detail, the delivery looks something like this...

Item Material Deliv. Qty Batch

10 12345 0

900001 12345 10 ABCD

it is just the standard way how SAP works with batches in a delivery, if SAP does the batch determination for you.

If you enter the batch manually then you can do that directly in item 10 and you dont get this 900001 item
