Hi there,
'logical system' is used to identify an individual client in a system, for ALE
communication between SAP systems. That's why you see a field for 'logical
system' in the client master data in SCC4 (table T000).
&
Client can be defined as commercial, organizational, and technical terms, a self-contained unit in an SAP system with separate master records and its own set of tables.
Hope it helps
Cheers

SAP Client methodology is unknown in non-SAP world. So for non-SAP people it looks like SAP connection, but in reality its a particular client being connected. In this way logical system are used. Logical system is also used BW/BI installation for the same purpose. Final word: SAP Client and Logical System are 1:1 relation.

Logical system is to uniquely identify the clients in SAP Ssytem landscape.
For eg, you can have client with the same name (say develpoment server and production server) but the logical systems assigned to it sholud be unique

Hi,
A logical system can be seen as a partner for idocs exchange.
If this partner is a SAP system, the logical system will point to a Client in the partner SAP system.
If this partner is an EDI partner, the logical system will point to a file.
If this partner is an external system with a SAP RFC connector, the logical system will point to this connector. etc...
A SAP client is always a logical system.
a logical system may be something else than a SAP client.

Olivier
