Where to download SLES10 SP1 SAP Version?

Former Member

Hello,

I try to install the [SAP NetWeaver 7.0 - Java and ABAP Trial Version on Linux - VMware Edition|https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/50f623ab-c08b-2a10-5e9d-d5f390a7def7] but on http://www.novell.com/linux/vmware/ I can't find a SLES10 SP1 SAP Version. I only found the [SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 VMWare Workstation Virtual Machine|http://download.novell.com/Download?buildid=tAXE3xLpiCE~] Version. Is that the correct Version?

During the extraction of the RAR File this error occured:

! C:SAP NetWeaver 70 - Java and ABAP VMware Trial.part02.rar: CRC-Error in SLES10SP1_Test_Drive(2)-s003.vmdk.

Any help?

Best regards

Gregor

OK, I downloaded the 'vanilla' Suse 10 VM that's available on the Novell site and that worked a treat, i.e. booted into Linux just fine.

Then downloaded the NW04s Java VM from SDN and unpacked that. Looking at the VMX configuration file it references the baes OS using disk name "SLES10SP1_Test_Drive.vmdk". Problem is that the Suse disks use the name "SUSE Linux Enterprise Server.vmdk". If the installation procedure is to merge the Suse and SAP VM files then it looks like this won't work. It makes me think that the vanilla Suse VM isn't the correct VM.

I did a bit of digging and went onto the Novell web site. I selected downloads, and chose SUSE Linux Enterprise Server --> SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 --> All Dates. This brought back 7 files of which the top one dated 20 Dec 2007 is "SAP Test Drive - SLES10SP1VSAP.rar". I think this could be the one we should be downloading....! I don't have the bandwidth to download this at the moment but my guess is that this is the SP1 release that integrates with the SAP VM files. If I get a chance I'll download it this evening and post an update.

Cheers,

PS: I'm also getting 404 errors on the SDN downloads page.

Looks like the SAP Test Drive VM files were the correct ones. Downloaded these last night and merged in the NW04s files and used the SAP NetWeaver7.0-Java-VMware-TrialCTB.vmx configuration file. Machine booted and looks like it started the J2EE server.

You will probably have to change the keyboard layout which is German and firefox still has Waldorf configured in the proxy settings for anything other than localhost.

I need to spend a bit more time on this to update the VM tools to V6 plus I'm running on really low spec hardware (Thinkpad T41P with 1GB physical memory) so everything is slow and I'm not even sure how or if the J2EE server will perform with this spec.

Anyone at SAP considered building an image for the Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud)...?

Cheers and happy new year to all....! George M-A

FYI: The 404 is cured after clearing cookies, cached pages and restarting PC. So looks like a local browser issue and nothing generic.

Hi George,

cleaning the Browser Cache and deleting the Cookies doesn't helped here. I will try to restart my PC also and try again.

Hi Gregor,

I'm pretty sure that you can run the standard Linux Testdrives on any up to date Linux System, regardless if it is in a native or virtual environment. Of course, only the Red Hat and Novell one's are tested by the LinuxLab. The Testdrive which works perfectly is:

[SAP NetWeaver 7.0 (2004s) - Trial Version on Linux|https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/60d6c8b7-5d8f-2910-31bf-ebdf74fefd8b]

I'm not familiar with the version you are downloading, but when looking at the error message you posted I'm pretty sure that one file you downloaded (namely: SAP NetWeaver 70 - Java and ABAP VMware Trial.part02.rar) is broken. CRC errors state that something is wrong with the file (checksum is not correct). Download it and try again,

Thanks,

Hannes

Hi Hannes,

I've tried to download again. I've used MS IE and Firefox. But it seems that the provided file is already broken. When I try to download the version you've mentioned I receive a 404 Error message. I will send a message to sdn@sap.com to request help.

Thanks for the reply.

There is no "SLES 10 SP1 SAP version" - it´s the normal SLES 10 with service pack one - that must be bought. However, you can download an evaluation version from the Novell website.

Hi Just to clarify, there is a SLES 10 version preconfigured for the ABAP+Java and Java only version.

The sles is preconfigured in the way, that it mounts the "SAP VMware image" and comes with startscripts.

Search for keyword "SAP" on the download section on the novell site, the file is called "SLES10SP1VSAP.rar"

After you extracted both archives, you have 2 vmx files.

"SLES10SP1Single.vmx" just to start the SLES 10 .

"SAP NetWeaver7.0-Java-VMware-TrialCTB.vmx" to start the SLES 10 with SAP image mounted.

Dear Alexander,

thanks for the hint regarding "SLES10SP1VSAP.rar" - it's really useful as SAP under [the download link for SAP NetWeaver 7.0 - Java Trial Version on Linux - VMware Edition|https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/7005cdbf-ba8b-2a10-81b0-ebcfe8061f8f] links to a wrong Novell download site as already mentioned by Gregor above.

After successful extraction the image can be booted with VMWare Server, running the "Netweaver Status" script then returns following output:

06.01.2008 17:42:26

GetProcessList

OK

0 name: jcontrol

0 description: J2EE Server

0 dispstatus: YELLOW

0 textstatus: Some processes running

0 starttime: 2008 01 06 16:34:36

0 elapsedtime: 1:07:50

0 pid: 3997

1 name: igswd_mt

1 description:

1 dispstatus: GREEN

1 textstatus: Running

1 starttime: 2008 01 06 16:34:36

1 elapsedtime: 1:07:50

1 pid: 3998

For me this seems as the server should run well - so far so good.

The problem that I do have now is, that the SAP GUI seems not to be installed properly:

Trying to launch the GUI I receive following error message:

There was an error launching the application

Details: Failed to execute child process "/opt/SAPClients/SAPGUI7.00rev5.1/bin/guilogon" (No such file or directory)

Within folder /opt I then just find a broken link to /SAPClients as well as a zip file "PlatinGUI-Linux.jar"

Does anybody accidentially know what could have gone wrong? Shouldn't the gui be already pre-configured?

Help very much appreciated !

Hi Alex,

if you've installed the J2EE Server version you don't need the SAP GUI. The server is only accessible via HTTP. But it seems that the license Key of the Server is already expired. I've posted about that problem in the Topic: [License Key for SAP NW 7.0 - Java Trial Version on Linux - VMware Edition|; but haven't got any answers till now.

Hello all,

I downloaded part1 Novewll SLES10 and part2 SAP soft

http://www.novell.com/documentation/sles10/esd/ii_sap_testdrive_sles10sp1_vmware1.html

But here is the problem >>

Refer to the file index.html for additional information on how to install and use our Vmware edition of the NetWeaver 7.0 test drive for evaluation. "

I don't have this "index.html" and also if i start up SLES I don't know root or how to login.

I know this is more related to Novell issue, but looks like somebody change this with mistake

Thanks for any help

This thread has been incredibly helpful for me to understand the Java VMWare download. But I'm still having some problems and I hope that some of the previous posters have marked this thread for monitoring.

I installed the CTB VMware download and I am able to load it properly. But how do I get the SAP GUI to run? It appears that this thread stopped right at this point and I really need more specifics to continue. Here is what I gather so far:

1. The SAPGUI icon gives the error "Failed to execute child process..." because it isn't meant to be run directly. Instead, you have to access it from a browser using HTTP. If that is the case, then what would I enter in the URL to connect to the SAPGUI?

2. According to the Index.html help file, I'm supposed to install PlantinGUI by entering "java -jar PlatinGUI-Linux-700.jar". I found the jar file in the "/opt" folder. However, when I do this I get a huge error message about 'XLIB: connection to ":0.0" refused by server' and "XLIB: No protocol specified" and "java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError". How to I unpack the jar file without all these errors?

3. Lastly, if I get the two previous two steps to work, will I now have SAP running on my screen or do I need to execute more commands to do this?

Oh yeah - I just noticed that when I run NetWeaver status, the jcontrol J2EE Server textstatus is Stopped. The igswd_mt is GREEN and Running. So that appears ok. But shouldn't the J2EE Server be running as well?

Thanks for any help.

Hi Brian,

I've not jet tired to get the CTB (Java Only) Version running in my VMWare. But for the Java + ABAP Version I've just published a Blog: [SAP NetWeaver 7.0 - Java and ABAP Trial Version on Linux - VMWare Edition - Tips & Tricks|/people/gregor.wolf3/blog/2008/03/31/sap-netweaver-70--java-and-abap-trial-version-on-linux--vmware-edition--tips-tricks]. Perhaps that could be helpful also. But I will try to install the CTB and write about the problems that may occur.

Just one note: You can't connect with SAP GUI to the Java Edition. It is a J2EE-Application Sever only. So you can only use your Browser to access it.

Best regards

I'm in the exact boat as Brian above here. I was reading through this helpful thread, only to have the thread stop at the point where I needed answers.

Specifically at #1 above, I get the same error message, so I tried to access it from the browser, but I'm not sure what URL to use.
