Document splitting error in FB60 & PGI : Balancing field business area / profit center in line item

Dear Gurus

We are facing document splitting error in two scenarios. We have activated document splitting at business area and profit center level.

1. Post goods issue (tcode VL01N, VL02N ) in stock transfer order

In STO , we are getting "Balancing field business area in line item is not filled". We have checked configuration and mapping of business area using plant + division combination is present. Still we are getting error message. Surprisingly error comes when STO is for manufacturing plant ( S ) to warehouse ( MAP ). Error does not come when STO is between two manufacturing plants.

2. FB60 posting when business area in header is different from line item

Error message is "Balancing field profit center in line item not filled". If business area in header is same as line item, issue does not arise. Business area in item is derived from cost center. Not sure why problem arises when header and item business area are different.

We have checked basic document splitting configuration and do not find issue.

Resolved STO Post goods issue error by writing substitution rule on business area field. Though could not really understand why it happened.
