BOM Explosion Number in Sales Order

Former Member

Hi Experts,

For a make-to-order case, I would like to assign a predefined BOM explosion number with fixed key date to a sales order item. Instead of manually assigning the BOM explosion number to the sales order item, is there any way to let the system automatically assign the BOM explosion number?

As I read from SAP Library under the BOM Explosion Number (Fixed Key Date), it states "The system can automatically specify the BOM explosion number when entering planned independent requirements or customer independent requirements or when entering the sales order." So is there any configuration to be done in advance to enable the BOM explosion number to be automatically assigned to sales order item?

Thanks,

SW

In OPPQ, activate the check box

BOM explosion number make-to-order.

Hi Rajesha,

I have activated the check box in OPPQ, yet when I created a sales order line with an item of MRP group 0031, the value of BOM explosion number still can't be copied automatically to the sales order line. Is the BOM explosion number in the sales order line must be manually assigned?

Look forward for your further advice.

Thanks,

Hi

Since you are using MRP group check the settings under OPPR BOM explosion, whether it is referred from Plant parameters, that means OPPQ.If not select the 'Setting from plant parameter' value from drop-down list.

Dear,

If you are using MRP group, then the setting is to be done under MRP group and plant level as one of our firned told.

Hi Sudhar, Rajesha,

Thanks for your advice. I checked both the settings in OPPR and OPPQ for the BOM explosion of the plant, the setting has been set as what you mentioned. However, when I created a new sales order line and select an item of MRP group 0031 and save the sales order, the BOM explosion number is still empty.

Your further assistance will be much appreciated.

Dear,

I remember this is the setting, let me simulate and come back.

Hi Rajesha,

Thanks in advance. Additional information to share with you, that with the settings as advised in OPPQ and OPPR, if I didn't manually enter the BOM explosion number value in the sales order line, the planned orders from the planning run do not have the explosion number too, that means system didn't find the valid explosion number for the material. But if I manually entered the BOM explosion number value in the sales order line, the planned orders will have the explosion number copied.

Hope the information above help you further to understand my problem.

Thanks.

the setings in OPPQ and OPPR are only efective if you create a Order BOM (CS61)

If you need all sales orders for a material select a single / central BOM, you need to perform the customizing in OS36, OS30 and OS31 as I mentioned above.

Hi Vicente,

I checked in OS30, OS31 and OS36, all the details have been set accordingly. Still, my sales order line just can't automatically assign value in its BOM explosion number field. Do you have any idea if I missed any configuration? Thanks in advance for your further advice.

Did you try OS32?

In this step, you can define for multiple BOMs that the system is to use a particular alternative BOM as of a certain date...

I tried also setting up the material and its BOM determination by specifying only 1 BOM out of multiple BOMs. Still,

1. When I add the said material into sales order line and save the sales order, the BOM explosion number value never appear automatically in the sales order line.

2. When I run the planning on the sales order through MD50, the planned results do not have the BOM explosion number attached.

I think your advice is more applicable to selection of a BOM from multiple BOMs instead of determining the fixed key date based on appropriate BOM explosion number, correct me if I am wrong.

You´re right, the scenario I described is to select a particular alternative of multiple BOM´s. In this case a single BOM can be used by multiple sales orders.

If you need one particular BOM for each Sales Order, you will have to create a Sales Order BOM in tcode CS61.

In that case the customizing in OPPQ/ OPPR has to be mantained.

In customizing:

1. under T code OS36 you assign a "aplication" (eg. SD01) to iten category.

2. in T code OS30 you assign a selection ID to aplication above. (E.g.: 04)

3. In T-code OS31 you assign a priority and BOM usage
