Plant Maintenance Implementation

Hi I have been asked to do my first implementation of the PM module specifically for maintenance lists for serial/ batch controlled items by a client. Can someone please assist in this with relevant documentation that will help.

Also I have a part b to this. The client has been specific in saying that unique identification of units could be achieved by either equipment masters which is what I would have chosen but he has also gave an option to achieve similar and quoted "this may be acheived by chapter 5 issue using batch or serial number". Has anyone ever heard of this terminology "Chapter 5 Issue", is it SAP?

help.sap.com is free, very good and pretty exhaustive resource. Yet, I must say you have quite some work on hand and I can see you shooting a number of queries in the near future which is of course welcome. Other materials might attract IPRs.

For part B chapter 5 might be a reference he or she is making in his/her diary, presentation etc..! Unless he/she calls certain experts in batch management/serial number management as chapters!

Serial numbers also give a unique identity to each machine. But it requires a material code unlike with equipments. Batch management is more relevant for production and quality controls and make product returns easy if and when required.

Thanks for the response Bala. The system enironment means that each serial number that i require an equipment master will also have a part number and material master. I will be using the serial no profile on the material master to initiate the relevant creation of the pm elements for a particular part number associated serial number.

I am hoping some one provides summarised pm overview docs and summarised implememation check list to aid me.

Would it not be more fair if you subcontracted someone to do this job, instead of expecting a free lunch which you charge to your customer?
