Why does Crystal 20 force visual studio to restart on fill fields page

I changed the database connection (database location) on one report, and now both reports fail when I attempt to preview. This is using VS 2015 Pro and CR 20. CR 21 doesn't find the editor for me. I have installed and uninstalled CR several times
