Dear Gurus!
Our Hardware supplier recommend to use 1-Quad cpu for SRM 5 and 2-Quad cpu from ECC 6 in production environment.
My question - can the multhicore technology be replacement of physical CPU?
Can 1 dual-core replace 2 CPU?
Can 1 quad-core replace 4 CPU?
IS there SAP official information about this issue?
Regards
Vladimir
Hi Vladimir!
Some thoughts:
I'd recommend to address this question to your hardware vendor because they can have more specific information and they surely posess with information about SAP application benchmarks related to specific hardware platform and particular types of CPU
You can find something useful here:
http://www.sap.com/solutions/benchmark/index.epx
Also you can find some useful information on hardware vendor's official site (HP for example has plenty of information)
Briefly: Each type of CPU has its capasity measured in SAPS. (but I noticed that there is no linear dependancy between the number of CPUs and performance). So in my opinion you can replace 1 dualCPU by 2 CPUs but you should understand what can be achieved by such replacement and what the price of the question.

HI Kogan,
Can u little bit precise with the requirements, and u have to check with the quick sizing tool ,with the exact requirements such as Whether the requirement is meant for ECC system or Portal or EP or XI ,then no. of users & concurrent users, for example portal means u have to give the Average think time and no.of iviews used url iviews used with all this info. u can get the exact SAPS ,with the SAPS total for NW u can ask the vendor with the SAP recommended CPU sizings

S.Rajeshkumar
rewad points welcome
Hi Vladimir!
Enough or not enough - it depends on the CPU capasity measured in SAPS. You can ask your vendor about it or you can post your actual configuration here and we will try to help your out. Vendors normally have such information.
There is very thin edge, and not only performance does depend on the hardware, but also depends on fine tuning of your system and many other factors
Best regards, Elena
