Double space doesn't work on iOS

When I am typing in a question, answer, or comment on iOS, the standard keyboard shortcut for "double space" = "." doesn't seem to work.

There are some other text input bugs in iOS on the Answers site as well, but I will try to report those separately when I isolate them. And my phone is now hot after typing this. Something isn't right.

Double space on iOS will insert "."

Other bug - for Android and iOS: In the answer text box the first letter is not automaically capitalized.

Yup, that's it. Aside from various shortcuts and auto-correct features not working, it just feels weird. What is going on with this text box on mobile?

Oh, and the icons in the text editing toolbar aren't retina.
