Change default value at runtime

I have a PO enhancement, the requirement is when input something on item then the some of item details value will be changed. For example, in the item screen, which have a free check box, it means the item is free of charge, when check it, the item detail of delivery->valuation type will be changed to type of FOC. How can i do it. Thanks!
