Equipment & Serial Number Management.

Hi All,

I have a typical scenario which is generally followed in process industries:

Equipments are installed in different functional locations within a maintenance plant.

Each equipment has its own equipment number alongwith serial number.

When an equipment is failed then it is dismantled and brought to storage location. One another similar equipment which was maintained as material in stores (there is no equipment master maintaied in system for this yet) is moved and installed in place of failed equipment in that functional location. This replacement equipment (basically a material from stores with another serial number).

My requirement is, for the same equipment number the equipment master should be able to show me both the serial numbers that was used (failed & replaced) alongwith its usage period and history details. Is there a way to map this in SAP?

I hear from others that this is not possible as the equipment and its serial number are unique in SAP.

Kindly post your valuable suggestions so as to bring clarity to this issue that I am facing.
