Hi,
Main Components in SLD is the software catalog and system catalog.
Software Catalog consists of two parts 1) Products 2)Software Component(SWC).
Product is an entity that is visible to a customer.Software Component is single represetation of various modules.A Software component is associated with a product.Software component should and must exist with a product. This SWC is used then imported into IR wherein we can further design the objects.
System Catalog on the other hand as the name suggests represents the systems used in E2E scenario.
Under system catalog the Techincal System and Business System are created.Technical system can have mutiple business systems associated with it but vice-versa is not possible.
Business system is used in ID wherein system configuration is done.

Hi Murali,
A software catalog describes the installed products and their constituent components. The software catalog is delivered with content about all SAP products.
The system catalog describes the systems in data centre from two perspectives i. e a logical view and a physical view. It describes the concrete information about the customer landscape.

Hi Murali,
SLD has two major components called
1.software catalog.
2.systems catalog.
Actually this software catalog consists of information of products and software component versions.
While we work with integration repository we need information from software catalog i.e we import software component version from SLD.
And Systems Catalog contains information of systems in landscape .
While we work in Integration Directory we import Business systems from SLD in to ID.
Totally we can say that software catalog is used in IR and
systems catalog is used in ID.

HI,
Software Catalog:
The SLD contains a Software Catalog of all installable SAP products and software components. The Software Catalog includes information about support packages and dependencies between the products and software components. This information is the basis for the description of the system landscape.
In addition, third-party products and software components can be implemented in a system landscape. Third-party products can be standalone applications or additional modules for SAP applications. In the SLD, you have to create third-party products and software components manually.
