xMII 12.0 Transport and Change Management

Hello All,

In the solution operation guide for SAP xMII12.0, it states that standard SAP CTS can be used for tranport and change management for xMII 12.0.

Did anyone try this out?

6.1 SAP xMII

6.1.1 Transport and Change Management

For transport and change management issues, the procedures of SAP NetWeaver apply. For more information, see the Technical Operations Manual for SAP NetWeaver at help.sap.com SAP NetWeaver SAP NetWeaver 7.0 (2004s) English SAP NetWeaver Library Administrator’s Guide Technical Operations Manual for SAP NetWeaver Administration of SAP NetWeaver Systems AS ABAP (Application Server for ABAP) Software Logistics Transport and Change Management.

Thanks,

Naveen

Transport and change management is planned for version 12.1 next year because we needed some additional functionality that is found in NW 7.1, but was not available in 7.0 (2004s). This was originally intended for 12.0, and may be why the docs are a bit misleading in the statement you quoted.

Your options for content and configuration backup and transport from system to system are really done by the two options on the System Administration section of the admin Menu. Projects are exported/imported from a single zip file archive and the supporting Configuration options for backup also create a single zip archive for backup and transport.

Udayan mentioned the Workbench editor for import/export, which is true but typically for smaller sets of file(s). The Project screen provides a very convenient manner for backup and transport. When a project import is performed it does an insert/update approach, so for a complete system mirror it is best to delete the existing project and then import the updated project fresh - this will make sure no removed files are leftover from a previous deployment.

Jeremy thanks for pointing that out & for the rest of the information as well.

The Project & Configuration Import/Export options under System Management is what we use for Transport. Sorry to have missed that in the last post.

hello Jeremy,

Thanks for the detailed reply. We are in the process of migrating from 11.5 to 12.00 and have identified the two options mentioned by you as the possible means of doing transport with 12.00 landscape.

But the catch with this solution is, every development should be uniquely tied to a project to enforce governence. Also we have found no means to disable import/export in the workbench. I wish xMII had additional roles where we could disable or restrict the ability to use import/export to certain roles.

Is there a timeline as to when xMII will be integrated with the standard CMS or CTS of Netweaver. Netweaver 7.1 is not going to be general release till mid of next year. Do you think like in other Netweaver suite of tools, there could a downporting of functionality to Netweaver 7.0??

Thanks for your reply.

Regards,

Naveen

I am not sure about the SAP standards but for the transports we have used the Export & the Import functionalities in the WorkBench.

I cannot comment on the change management part @ this moment.

Now that you've mentioned this I'll definitely take a look @ the documentation and explore it further.

Thanks
