physical inventrory difference posting to previous year

Hi

I have created physical inventory document on 3rd Jan and entered the count on 3rd Jan. I want to post the deference on 31st Dec of the previous year. Is it possible? If so can you please through some light on the same.

Backposting is certainly possible, see OSS note 91944.

However I am not sure about the creation date and counting date, I cannot tell you if they should be in the old year. Do a test and create a inventory document with todays date and try to post into the november.

Hi,

I created PI Doc with planned count date 3rd Jan, and entered the physical count on 3rd Jan. When I am trying to post the difference on 31st Dec, system is not accepting and saying the I can post the difference only in year 2008.

Pls advice me

so you got the answer.

Your creation date has to be in the same month like the posting date.

Both in december, but you execute the posting in January with december posting date.

I personally prefer a straight forward process, I create only that much documents which can be counted and posted on the same day.

Thanks a lot for your valuable inputs...here my business requirement is they can do physical inventory count only in the month of Jan after year close and wanted to post the difference on previous year end to adjust the financial statements as of Dec end. It looks this is not possible.

I said it is possible, but you have to create your documents in december with option freeze book inventory, then you can count and post the the inventory in January.

This is certainly not an easy test case, as you need a monthend closure inbetween. I would not do it without testing.

I tested the same. I created PI Doc on 31st Dec with planned count date as 3rd Jan, with freeze book inventory switch on and posted physical inventory count on 3rd Jan. But here i am not able to post the diferrence on 31st Dec. Our fiscal year is Jan to Dec. the following error is appearing.

"difference can only be posted for period 01 2008

Message no. M7734

Diagnosis

The first count was posted for this physical inventory document in the period 01 2008. The differences must likewise be posted in this period.

Procedure

Change the posting date so that the differences can be posted in posting period 01 2008"

you posted the count January, thats why you receive the error.

you have to post the count in December.

ten you can post the difference to december, even you execute in January
